FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does treatment take?

Your first session should take around 4 hours and about 2-3 hours for your follow-up sessions. The first session is crucial for creating a solid foundation that includes mapping out your hairline and laying out a consistent pattern for your first layer of pigment. Each session after that will add new "layers" of density and texture for realistic looking hair follicles.

Is it painful?

It depends on the person! From my experience, anyone can make it through all of their sessions; some people even fall asleep! I try to be as gentle as possible and often check in with you to make sure that you are comfortable.

What does it typically cost?

Prices vary depending on the needs and goals of each individual. Generally speaking, pricing can range anywhere from $1,000 to $6,000 for a finished product. Don't let this ballpark range discourage you! There are SMP options for everyone and reasonable payment plans are available!

How long does the treatment last?

This will depend on how you take care of your scalp once the procedure is completed, but it should last a lifetime. It's important to follow the aftercare instructions in-between sessions and after your final session is complete. I have a separate page that outlines post-care instructions. You may need a touchup session or two years down the road if you don't take care of your SMP!

Do I have to cut my hair?

If you are a man with wispy hair up top, it's strongly encouraged to just let it go. You will be surprised with how good you feel by literally cutting that insecurity away, and by how much younger and more confident you will look! That said, if you are in the early stages of thinning and want to keep your hair, or a woman with thinning hair, it's recommended to go with a Density Fill. This typically takes longer (I have to work with and around your hair) but will 100% give your hair a much fuller look!

Will it change color?

Well-trained and experienced SMP artists are educated in color theory and don't have issues with the pigment changing color. When done correctly, the pigment will match the exact color of your natural hair. In the case of "bad SMP", color correction is available but is also a time-consuming process.

Will this work with gray hair?

Yes! The "salt and pepper" look is a very popular item on the SMP menu. I use the above-mentioned color theory to match the shade of the pigment to the color of the grays/whites/blacks in your existing hair.

How does this differ from a regular tattoo?

Tattooing is a separate world from SMP! The needles, pigments/colors, and technique are very different. Not to say a tattoo artist can't do SMP, it's just not a common thing to have a tattoo artist perform that kind of procedure.

I have or will have a hair transplant, will this cause any problems?

I get this question a lot and the answer is no! I have worked with people that have had hair transplants and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injections, and the SMP enhances the appearance of a fuller head of hair from the combined treatments. SMP can also hide or camouflage scarring caused by hair transplant procedures.
